Fabulous Fall Mantels

We have already talked about great ideas for decorating your porch for fall, now it is time to turn the decorating to the inside of your home.  Spruce up your mantel with some fall decorations and if you don't have a mantel, create a festive fall vignette on a cabinet or table in your home.

A few fall elements gives Everyday Lovely's mantel a truly simple yet elegant look

An assortment of pumpkins and candles, what more could you ask for in a fall mantel.  Natural elements and the contiguous color pallet gives this mantel cohesiveness.

Elevate Pumpkins to give them importance and make them stand out.  Varying the height of items makes the vignette more interesting.

I love this vintage inspired look.  A few white pumpkins and vintage found items and you have got a great look!

Clever Mason Jar Ideas

A pumped up mason jar

Re-purpose the classic Mason jar as a soap or lotion dispenser in your bathroom.
Step 1: First, measure and mark the center of the jar's lid.
Step 2: Using a 1/2" high-speed steel drill bit (about $10; local hardware store), drill a hole to fit the width of a soap dispenser pump. We used pumps from old lotion bottles.
Step 3: Fill the jar with liquid soap, screw the lid back on, and insert the pump. You may need to trim the bottom of the pump to fit your jar.

Thank you Country Living for this great idea!

AND if you don't feel like re-purposing your own mason jar, here are a few that I found for sale on ETSY.

Handmade Jewerly

A few new items were added to the Jewels2Luv shop and I thought I would share them with you.

A iolite briolette is wire wrapped and hangs from a iolite chain

I call this the perfect everyday necklace.  A gold filled disc has been hammered to perfection and hangs on a gold filled chain.

This cute necklace features a handmade pendant and a turquoise chain.  I made the pendant from fine silver then plated it in 18kt gold.

A delicate handmade fine silver circle hangs from an apatite gemstone chain.

This lovely necklace features a labradorite gemstone chain and a labradorite briolette that hangs from a gold vermeil rose.

Hope you all have a great week!

Decorate Your Porch For Fall

As soon as the temperatures start to fall and the leaves change color it gets me in the mood to decorate my front porch for fall.   It is so fun and easy to do!  I have put together a few ideas that will help you spruce up your front porch for the changing season.  The ideas below can be easily created using supplies you find in your yard or by taking a quick trip to your local garden or hobby store.
First and foremost, dress your front door with a fall Wreath.  You can purchase a lovely wreath at sites like Etsy, but wreaths are so easy and fun to make.  Purchase a grapevine wreath at your local hobby store along with some floral wire and hot glue you will have all the fixins' to make a gorgeous fall wreath.  Collect some natural elements from your yard and attach them to the wreath with either hot glue or floral wire.  Whether your wreath is simple or elaborate a wreath on your front door will welcome all guests with a taste of fall.

Get some Mums! This is the time that most stores do away with the regular summer perennials and it becomes mum time. Mums are my favorite fall plant and they come in so many beautiful colors. You'll be able to find pots of mums at the grocery store and home improvement stores.  A few pots of mums go a long way in the porch decorating scheme of things. The mums can be an accent or a focal point and they add such a nice texture to the front porch.

Pumpkins and Gourds are perfect for a fall porch! Add some small pumpkins and a few large pumpkins for a splash of fall color to your porch.  Don't carve your pumpkins so they will last longer.  Try grouping several pumpkins of different sizes together.  When you group like items together it creates depth and interest.  I also love white and green pumpkins.  They create a more modern look.  Think outside the box and place your pumpkin in a planter to add elevation and interest to your front porch.  Paint or lightly carve your address numbers on each pumpkin for an original idea.  Finally you can line them on the sides of your steps to direct guest to the front door.

A large porch can handle a couple bales of hay.  Stack bales hay on your porch, add your mums and pumpkins and you have got a great looking classic fall porch.  Don't forget your Wreath!

My Favorite Slipcovered Sofa

I have to share one of my FAVORITE budget friendly finds!  The Ektorp Slipcovered collection from IKEA.

  Source: Country Living

Ektorp sofa with white Slipcover from Ikea Source:  Ikea

PB Basic Sofa from:  Pottery Barn

If you are like me, and like things that look great, wear well and are easy on the budget then you will love this.  Having a house filled with boys (and their friends) I did not want to spend a lot of money on my furniture knowing that in a few years no matter how much I spent it would most likely get trashed.  I took a chance on the Ektorp collection from Ikea.  The sofa looks very similar to many popular slipcovered sofa's on the market but at a fraction of the cost.

The slipcovers come in a heavy denim or a linen type material.  I have the khaki colored denim slipcover and have washed it several times.  It still looks great!  However, I do not put the slipcover in the dryer.  I always lay it out on the patio to dry.

If you are not keen on the slipcovers Ikea offers you can check out Comfort Works or Bemz and order a custom cover.  These companies make slipcovers that fit all the Ikea furniture.  The styles range from a loose shabby chic cottage fit to a more tailored fit.

So, the bottom line.... After 3 years of use I still really like my Ektorp furniture.
Way to go Ikea!
